Riveridge fruit reaches shoppers under our own label and under a lot of other labels. Here is how to find it either way.
Sometimes our name is on the bag. Often it is not.
Most fresh produce reaches shoppers in the retailer’s own packaging. A Riveridge apple can leave our packing line and arrive on a shelf in a store-brand bag, and that is normal across the entire industry.
Our cider is the exception. It carries the Riveridge label in stores across the country, so it is the easiest thing to go looking for by name.
Riveridge Cider
Look for our label in the cooler.
Riveridge cider ships to all 50 states and carries our own label. Availability changes by store and by season, so call ahead if you are after a specific flavor.
Retailer availability varies by location and season. Seasonal flavors such as Pumpkin Spice and Salted Caramel appear in fall and sell through quickly.
Riveridge Apples
The private label reality.
Walk into a store and you will rarely see our name on an apple bag. Depending on the chain, our fruit ships under the retailer’s own brand, under a partner brand, or occasionally under ours. It varies by store and by product, sometimes within the same aisle.
That is not something we hide. It is how fresh produce works, and it is why so few growers can tell you honestly where the fruit in your cart came from.
Here is how to spot Michigan fruit no matter whose name is on the bag.
Check the PLU
The sticker on the apple carries a four or five digit code that identifies the variety. Our PLU directory lists every code we pack.
Look for Michigan
Bags and labels are required to name the state of origin. Michigan-grown in the fall usually means fruit from the Ridge.
Watch the timing
Varieties come out in a set order each season. If Paula Reds are on the shelf in late August, they came from a Michigan orchard.
Ask the produce manager
They know their suppliers. Most are happy to tell you where a bin came from.

Every apple carries a PLU code that names the variety. Match it against our directory and you will know exactly what you are holding, whatever the bag says.
Sweet Cherries
Six weeks, four states.
Michigan sweet cherries open around the Fourth of July and run about six weeks. Because they are hand-picked with the stem on and highly perishable, they only travel as far as Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana.
Look for them in produce departments across those four states from early July into mid-August. Outside that window they are simply not available, and anyone selling Michigan cherries in December is selling something else.
Vegetables and Stone Fruit
Close to home, on purpose.
Asparagus, sweet corn, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, peaches and prune plums stay regional. West Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. Short seasons and short trips are the whole point.
Michigan asparagus runs roughly six weeks each spring. Peaches and prune plums arrive in August. Everything else fills the summer between.

Why is the Riveridge name not on the apple bag?
Most fresh produce ships under the retailer’s own brand. Our apples reach stores in retailer packaging, partner brands and occasionally our own, and it varies by chain. Checking the PLU sticker and the Michigan origin line is the reliable way to identify our fruit.
When are Michigan sweet cherries available?
Roughly early July through mid-August, about a six-week window. They are sold in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana. Perishability sets the limit on how far they travel.
Do you sell directly to consumers?
No. Riveridge sells to retailers, wholesalers and food service distributors. If you cannot find a product locally, tell us where you shop and we will see whether we already supply that chain.
